Ritual Casting

The act of Ritual Casting allows you to access more energy in a safe environment and potentially cast more powerful spells. In order to cast ritual spells, you need the following things -

  • Ritual Circle - A specially prepared, temporary or permanent space marked by ritual glyphs designed to contain your energies until the spell is released.
  • Time - Rituals require a minimum of one Stretch to perform

Ritual spells are considered Compound Actions. So you need to gather a certain number of spellcasting successes for the spellcasting to be successful as a whole. Each spellcasting roll allows you to gather a number of WP equal to your INT Base Talent. You can make a number of spellcasting rolls up to your RES Base Talent.

At any point, you may push the gathered WP and WP from your own reserves into the spell and release it. When you push the gathered WP, make a spellcasting roll as normal. At any time, you may make one more spellcasting roll to safely dissipate the energy.

Failure

There are two failure states for a Ritual Spell.

  • Failed Casting - Failing the casting roll is treated just like a normal casting; your WP is spent, and the spell has no effect. Failure to dissipate the gathered energy is the equivalent of failing a normal casting. The WP is spent, including your personal reserves. The casting leaves you drained.
  • Ritual Disruption - If your Ritual Circle is disrupted, the gathered energy is released. You may attempt to dissipate the energy, otherwise it is treated the same as not gathering enough WP.
