Warding
Warding is not the comforting, translucent bubble of classic fantasy; it is the brutal, tactical science of local structural reinforcement and kinetic dissipation. A Warder acts as a “reality-stabilizer,” identifying the weak points in the fabric of space or the integrity of a target’s defenses and manually reinforcing them against external entropy. It requires a cold, mathematical understanding of stress loads—the practitioner must calculate the precise frequency of incoming force and “ground” it before it collapses the surrounding environment or their own physical structure.
Resolution
Success:
The Warder successfully threads their will into the immediate vicinity, creating a “Static Membrane.” The ward is set firmly, acting as an impenetrable barrier that absorbs incoming kinetic or magical pressure without a sound. The environment remains stable, and the Warder maintains total composure, as the energy is cleanly grounded into the local reality.
Under the Threshold:
The roll lands between 1 and the Threshold. The ward is established, but the execution is “porous.” It succeeds in stopping the primary threat or attack, but the structural calculation was slightly off; the kinetic energy is not fully absorbed. The barrier holds, but the user feels the weight of the impact in their own bones, muscles, or Willpower reserves.
Botch:
A natural 20 represents a total failure of structural command. The ward does not simply fail; it inverts. Instead of repelling the threat, the practitioner has accidentally created a localized vacuum—an “arcane suction” that rips the air, energy, or the threat itself into the very space they were trying to protect. This may manifest as the threat being pulled through the barrier with amplified force, or the Warder becoming trapped inside a self-activating, indestructible pocket of force that they cannot deactivate.
Warding Effects
| Casting Threshold | Effect |
| 2 | Per Point of Armor Rating |
| 5 | Resistance to one damage type |
| 10 | Immunity to one damage type |
| Special | Roll Magnitude vs the target's RES to banish them |
