Seeking
Seeking is not the passive reception of divine insight or mystical prophecy; it is the aggressive, predatory act of reaching into the static of the Weave to hunt for hidden truths. A Seeker acts as a “sensory hunter,” navigating the noise of reality to isolate specific data points—whether they be lost objects, lingering psychic echoes, or the intentions of a hidden adversary. It requires a brutal focus; the practitioner must tune their consciousness to the frequency of the target while insulating their own mind from the crushing, meaningless roar of the universe's ambient background data.
Resolution
Success:
The Seeker successfully tunes their awareness to the target frequency. The data manifests clearly—a crisp vision, an intuitive understanding of a mechanism, or the sudden, cold clarity of a target's location. The Seeker maintains their composure, and the mental “noise” of the universe is held firmly at bay.
Under the Threshold:
The roll lands between 1 and the Threshold. The Seeker gains the truth they hunted for, but the connection is “dirty.” The ambient static of the Weave bleeds into the Seeker's mind, resulting in immediate, unmitigated feedback. They might suffer sensory bleed (seeing things that aren't there), temporary sensory deprivation, or a “Cognitive Hangover” where their short-term memory is fractured by the sheer volume of data forced through their synapses.
Botch:
A natural 20 represents a catastrophic synchronization failure. Instead of pulling information out of the Weave, the Seeker accidentally acts as a lightning rod for it. A torrent of unfiltered, entropic information crashes into their consciousness, causing a “Psychic Short-Circuit.” This results in massive mental trauma or temporary paralysis as the brain attempts to reboot. Furthermore, because the connection was forced open, the Seeker may inadvertently transmit their own internal, private thoughts or memories into the environment, potentially alerting enemies to their location or revealing the party’s vulnerabilities.
