Spellcasting

Casting a Spell

To cast a spell, regardless of your power source, you need the following -

Spell Components

All spells require 3 components: Thoughts, Words, and Gestures. These three components allow the spellcaster to form the magic to their will.

Thoughts -

A spellcaster must be able to coherently form the spell in their mind first.

Gestures -

Use your hands and body to shape the magic.

Words -

You must firmly speak the spell into existence.

Paradigm

Your magical paradigm is a combination of how you view your magic and the flavor of your spells. Where does your magic come from, and how does it work?

Magical Elements

Beyond these three components, there are four elements that determine the Casting Threshold of the spell.

Once the Casting Threshold is set, you may spend WP to reduce this number at a 1:1 ratio.

Spell Focus

A Spell Focus is the essential Conduit through which a practitioner filters raw energy, serving as the primary tool that defines the specific “flavor” and aesthetic of their manifestations. Rather than being mere aesthetic choices, the physical form of the focus — whether it be the sharp precision of a wand, the grounding weight of a staff, the resonant vibrations of a musical instrument, or the ideological tether of a holy symbol — acts as a specialized lens that shapes how magic interacts with the world. By selecting a specific focus, a caster establishes the discipline and method of their craft, ensuring that the volatile power they summon is refined into a predictable, controlled force rather than a chaotic surge.

Force of Will

Once the spell's Threshold is set, then you may spend a number of WP up to your Spellcasting skill to reduce the Threshold before rolling any dice.

Subtle Spells

You may attempt to cast spells even if you cannot perform the three Spell Components. For each one you leave out of your casting, increase the Casting Threshold by 2.

Area/Target

Determines how many individuals or how much area is affected. Choose either Area or Targets, not both.
